Historical Data

We are excited to announce our latest upgrade in Signal - historical data! This will allow organizations to compare this year’s rates to last year’s, and answer questions such as:

  • Which of my competitors received rate increases, and how much did their rates increase? How does this compare to my own rate changes?
  • In a particular state, how have rates increased or decreased over time with specific payers?
  • Where are rates being compressed vs. stretched in the market?
  • What rate increase / decrease should I propose during my upcoming contract negotiations?

Introduction / Context

As you most likely already know, our Signal platform is updated monthly with the latest price transparency data posted by payers. Until now, there was no way to look up historical rates to see rate increases/decreases and overall market trends. But with the addition of historical data to your Signal platform subscription, you now have full access to the previous year’s price transparency dataset - integrated directly into your platform - to allow you to gain additional insights.

When added to your platform, you will see the option to choose 2025 data and/or 2024 data on the landing page within each of our 3 Signal search modes: MRF Rate Search, Market Benchmarks, and Peer Benchmarks (Peer Benchmarks example below):

You will also see this option appear in our bottom toolbar when performing a search:

Viewing historical data within MRF Rate Search

Let’s say you want to perform an MRF Rate Search for Alma’s 90837 (1-Hour Psychotherapy Session) rate with Optum for a Marriage & Family Therapist. Without historicals, you will perform a rate search and see a row return with a rate of $137.52 (Alma’s current rate).

But now, with historical data, you can simply click the 2024 box in the “Year” pop-up in the bottom tile, and you will see the 2024 rate in pink, showing that Alma got a ~10% rate decrease from last year!

In addition to seeing your table with results, you can also take a look at the “Distributions” panel to see that while the top rate was $417.96 in 2024, it is now $439.85. You can click into this “Distributions” panel to see more details on the market percentile rate distribution - which as seen below, looks consistent year over year for 90837.

Viewing historical data within Market Benchmarks

Continuing with the 90837 example, let’s say you want to see how rates have changed for this code across the US in 2025 vs. 2024. Within a Market Benchmarks report, you can get a quick glimpse into how 50th, 75th, and 95th percentile rates have changed across the country. Looks like the Median rate increased by 13% in Idaho!

If you are interested in a particular state (for example, Illinois), you can click the dropdown arrow next to “IL” to see how rates have changed with specific payers. As seen below, Aetna’s median rate dropped from $130.08 to $128.93 in 2025.

Viewing historical data within Peer Benchmarks

Finally, let’s say you want to compare your rate changes to a specific set of competitors’ rate changes. Using our 90837 example, you can run a Peer Benchmarks report and include 2024 rates (just like with the other reports). For example, as seen below, when comparing Alma to Sondermind with Optum, Alma’s rates are decreasing towards Sondermind’s rates, which have stayed consistent.

You can perform this comparison across all payers and compare up to 100 competitors at a time!
